I did all the data the day of because I didn't want to forget anything. I feel that it is clear how important the internet is for doing research to help gain more knowledge or fill in the gaps when I need to study for tests. Blackboard was only used for syllabus checking, which is a waste, and obviously moodle is much better. Direct communication was pretty limited actually, because I rarely study with other people but I do ask certain teachers questions often (especially my philosophy teacher). I got no outside tutoring- because where do you get it anyway? I spent a lot of time in the library, because it helps me focus much better than I'm in my room, because there are no other people, no myspace, and no music, and no phone, and no instant messaging. In other words, certain technology certainly messes with studying, but the internet alone is a great asset.

Reflection on the Course

My reflection is that the projects in the course were really helpful. The presentations definetly made me feel more comfortable giving presentations both in making the power point and in public speaking. I loved our xCited idea, and I was happy because I thought, hey we could do that in the real world. I thought that I learned a lot about people's connection via technology, and I think this will really help with the project working for my mom (btw her business is Fine Living Designs, and she arranges silk flowers with her friend).

Thinking about doing advertising as a major

Political Science 101 (3)
Information and Communication Technology (3) (DEF take this)
Chem 100, Lab (4) (DEF take this)

and then i could take also

Com 200

Journalism 220

Economics 101

Psych Major is this:

201 (1) intro to the psych major (DEF take this)

211 learning (3) 230 Developmental Psych

260 Physiological Psychology (3) (Most interesting Psych class)

271 Data analysis in psych (1)

So I could take Chem 100 and lab (4), ICT (3) Psych 201 (1) Polisci 101 (3) Psych 260 (3)

Okay that makes 14, which is getting somewhere and I could kinda think if I wanna go psych or advertising based on that

This is upperdivision stuff for advertising
Advertising:300 310 W 460 461 500 565, 3 units from journalism 300 comm 440 and 480 and 9 upper division units in com or journalism
minor in psych or 9 upper division units

Then there's always the neuroscience major at ucsd. I have decided that I'm going to apply to transfer and see if I get in. If I do I'll probably go and study cognitive studies. That interests me way more than psychology (I am not that into right now). I still could do psych, but it seems like a lot of it is really random. Advertising seems really practical, although I didn't really like com 103 so I dunno... I am intersted in the art aspect of computer science (web page design etc.) so I would NOT major in cs cuz a lot of it is math. Thank god I'm doing that toltec thing. I really wish I could just take classes I'm into from different majors. I'd take a bucnh of art classes, more philosophy classes, classes in neuroscieence in the psych major and more history- so far the closest thing to this is the combined curriculum of cognitive science @ ucsd. If I transfer I can't do ict probably so that kinda sucks a lot... Lol long process

Oh and I guess I should say the reason why I posted this here is that its easy to refer back to.

I'm excited about a new project

My mom and her friend are going to be hiring me as their website designer for their company, so that means I have to get flash. It made me realize that I wish I could do the marketing portion too, so I am going to definetly check out that major. The next is to go to clubs and watch music videos to see other's moves and then practice them on my own. The third is to use a website which shows how to do the steps with little videos and then practice them on my own. The website is : rap.about.com/library/blbreakdancecoverpage.htm

I think that this is pretty good so far.

. What aspects of the materials, teachers and other learners, physical setting, social and other interactions, convenience, etc. are important to you. Make a list of the top 10 aspects.

The top 10 aspects:

4Convenience
1Ability to ask Questions
5Ability to see steps Repeated
10Ability to see Combinations of Moves
2Ability to Interact with Others
3Ability to relate to the level of dancers
6Cost
7Time Involved
9Location with space I can practice in
8Quality of Music

Now I need to break it down.

Description of End Results: This project was helpful in providing evidence to why I might choose something intuititively. Originally I thought that the ranking that was proved numerically would be what it was, and I think this is what helped me to decide what the order of the aspects important to me. For example, I knew the abilty to ask questions was the most important aspect, because that is what I value from having already gone to dance classes. Therefore, I think the project doesn't really give you brand information, it just helps justify what you already would want to choose. I still think that this is important, because you can really think about which factors are the most important, and afterwards you feel better about the decision you made. I would use this method in my everyday life for certain decisions and recommend it to others.

I also realized through doing this project that some factors were irrelevant, such as time involved, because they all take the same amount of time. This is useful because I might make a decision thinking "Classes take too much time" without comparing it to the time needed in the other learning styles. This brings up another point, which is that all three choices are good choices for different reasons, and they would be valuable to do combine. Then, the ranking can help determine how much time to allot to each choice. Also, I can look at what I need to do and go to the right place to do it. For example, if I know I need to practice, I'm either going to want to practice after class in the studio or in the club, because I know that the internet option (in other wors in my room) doesn't give me a good location to practice. Also I won't waste time trying to ask questions such as in message forum about dance when I know how much more helpful it would be to ask in class.

How I felt working on the hypothesis outside of class

I think that it took a lot more time than it might have in class, because I didn't have anyone to discuss the hypothesis with and I was a little unclear about what we were supposed to do. Some people my age aviod technology like the plague, and some older people love it, so I don't want to generalize like that.

Personally I think there is a third category. People who understand technology well enough, yet are not necessarily able to afford some of the things techonology brings us. That would be me. It's really hard to live in a society in which everyone has a cell phone, without having credit to get your own cell phone. For people who can afford technology and choose to use it I think there are some disadvantages. One is isolation. Isolation occurs when people who choose to be lazy are sitting around on their computer for hours because it really is (and I agree) a lot easier than going outside for a walk or talking to someone face to face or anything else that they'll definetly be more likely to remember later (how much easier is it to remember a conversation v. a few hours online?). It's also isolating even in public settings. I see people talking on cell phones a lot when they are walking around in public settings, such as in a store, or at the gym. Personally I think this is annoying. Not everyone wants to hear all about their gossip and life. I think it gives them a sense of security, because if they went to wherever alone then they feel not so alone. I understand this. Right now I am in the library and playing my cd player so that I can focus on what I am doing. But its slightly different. While music may help me focus, the cell phone doesn't really help focus, it more distracts.

Now to get onto the people who don't understand technology. There's two categories of these people. People who are elderly and therefore have absolutely no interest in new-fangled gadgets. And people who are younger and just don't like technology. While the first could possibly benefit from the use of technology, I think the second group should be able to not use technology if they want. Now when I say technology I am not talking about things that American's "need" such as shelter, a fork and spoon. I am specifically refering to things which have cropped up recently: Cell phone, i-pod, internet, computer. Most of those people may occassionally use a computer but only when they really have to. I have a friend who was so frustrated with his computer he put it in his closet. I don't think that this makes him a bad person or even disadvantaged- I think its actually a lot better that he had a life v. someone who's knowledge of technology greatly overpowers their knowledge of people.

Sick

I've been feeling really sick lately. A lot of my friends (Nicky Laura Jenn Connie Cori) are sick and I think I caught it. I took a nap today to try to feel better, but all in all not much improvement by now.

Okay so this has been a busy week. Monday I studied with Laura for psych which I got an 88 on (grr 5 hours studying and its like 1/3 of my grade). I played raquetball with Katie and worked out. Today I had the psych midterms, interviewed to be an ra, had history, and later went to training at the annual fund. It sounds pretty fun so far, but Rachel just told me she's trying to get another job. Tomorow I have no midterms, and then I have another one on Thursday for history, as well as my second day of training for work, an experiment for psych, and maybe if I'm up to it Integrated Stretch at the gym. Friday's gonna cool down- food with Katie and then this weekend I plan on sleeping.

Pros Cons Transferring

Transfer

Pros: Neuroscience major better, slightly like campus better, closer to bf
Cons: Like sdsu, can't study abroad, maybe graduate after longer, can't be ra

Don't Transfer
Pros: Get to stay with same friends like, campus, study abroad possibilities, if do psych can still have more broad opportunities after undergrad, can be ra
Cons: Program in upper division may not be as interesting, may be harder to get into grad school

Solution: Don't transfer because pros outweigh cons for not transferring.

Why I like our hall

Everyone in our hall is pretty nice. I started a Valentine's Day Secret Santa inspired by Chelsea. So it's Secret lover. I'm hoping everyone signs up. I think that it sucks when people get left out on Valentine's Day, and hopefully all those people who complain about it will get some nice candy and be happy. To add on how nice people are, a person from my hall, Candace, is helping me with this assignment right now. Let's see- interactions with hall people today. Laura and I walked to psych together at the early dawn-ish time of 9:30 ish. So then we came back and I got a falafel sandwich and ate with Gwen and Nicky. My roomate doesn't know what falafel is, so she said, "falafel like falafel waffle" which was cute. Then later I ate dinner with Monica Sierra Christine and Devin (my roomate) and went to Best Buy with Nicky Gwen Laura and Scott (even tho he's not from our side of the hall). In conclusion, people from my hall are nice, even if people do not necessarily realize that we are not just a janitor's closet :-)

What did you learn, how can use it in your life and what is still unclear

I learned how to use inspiration, how to set up an account on moodle and post things from inspiration, and how to research different blogs and commentate on them.
